US 231 reopened after crash injures two

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Purdue University fire and police departments have cleared the scene of a two-vehicle accident at State Street and U.S. 231.

According to Purdue University Police Lt. Lesley Wiete, the crash happened just before 6 p.m. when a car traveling north on U.S. 231 attempted to turn left turn onto State Street. That’s when a second vehicle traveling south on U.S. 231 collided with the first in the intersection.

Officials have not released information on the extent of the injuries, but Information Director Brian Zink told News 18 two people were taken to the hospital. One had injures believed to be serious.

U.S. 231 was closed for about three hours and has since reopened.
