LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – On Friday, leave the kitchen behind and instead treat yourself to dinner at the Support Your Veterans Fish Fry. The event is a fundraiser for both the Mary T. Klinker Veterans Center and the Disabled American Veterans organization.
Patti Frist from the veterans center and Lee Theesweld from DAV stopped by News 18 This Morning to preview Friday’s event.
As Frist explained, the fish will be prepared by the West Point Volunteer Fire Department.
“We are also gonna have a silent auction and baked goods you can enjoy,” said Frist.
Some of the items up for auction will be a Clayton Richard baseball card and hotel and restaurant packages.
Part of the money raised will go toward DAV’s transportation fund.
“We supply the van that the county uses to transport veterans to Indianapolis and Danville,” explained Theesweld. “That’s about a four-year rotation. When I first joined the DAV, [the van] cost about $12,500. The van they’re currently using cost about $14,300.”
The rest of the money will go toward the Mary T. Klinker Veterans Center.
“Last year, we spent over $27,000 helping homeless and near homeless families,” said Theesweld. “Twenty-thousand dollars was spent in Tippecanoe County alone.”
The Support Your Veterans Fish Fry is from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, inside the West Pavillion at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds. It costs nothing to get in, but a meal is $6 for ages 10 and up and $5 for ages 2-10. Kids under 2 eat for free.
