WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Amanda Cayton is a well-known powerlifter in Benton County. She has competed in multiple competitions like the Special Olympics World Summer Games and will be competing in the 2016 World Open Championships this weekend.
Cayton has dyslexia which made her want to keep to herself, until she started powerlifting. She uses powerlifting as meditation and therapy. It’s something she enjoys, giving her a reason to wake up in the morning.
It wasn’t until two years ago that competitions were even a thought in Cayton’s mind. She was approached by the head of the special Olympics team. She has a combined total of 12 gold medals, hoping to bring home another four after the World Open.
Cayton plans on seeing where this sport takes her in the future, and hopes she shows others with similar conditions to hers they can accomplish anything they put their minds to.
