LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Family and friends gathered inside the Lafayette Theater Saturday night to help a loved one fighting for his life.
Jeffrey Barbee was diagnosed with Stage 4 oral cancer and underwent surgery in late October to help fight it.
Barbee is an active community member and has helped with events, including The Taste of Tippecanoe and OUTfest
Saturday, people participated in a silent auction and listened to live music. All of the proceeds will benefit Barbee and his fight against cancer.
Even though he couldn’t be in attendance for Saturday’s event, friends said Barbee is touched by all of the support.
“He could not believe how much the community has come together,” organizer Ashley Smith said. “Not only just for him, but as a community in general. I think it has touched him. He is oh-so surprised that this is occurring.”
The Jeffrey Barbee Benefit went on from 4 p.m. until 1 a.m. Sunday and was open for all ages.
Organizers asked for a $10 at-will donation at the door.
