CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — After the loss of four children in a Flora fire early Monday morning, the Carroll Consolidated School Corporation is reaching out to the community.
The school system said it experienced a tragic loss of four students Monday, and its staff and students are struggling to deal with this devastating news.
One lady News 18 spoke to says her daughter was best friends with one of the children who died in the fire, and she knew the mother very well.
“They were really good people, really nice people,” said close friend Jennifer Endress. “I just want the community and myself to help and support the mother in trying to be there for her the best we can.”
Carroll Consolidated Schools said grief counselors have been available all day Monday and will be available again on Tuesday. Although school is not in session Wednesday due to Thanksgiving break, counselors will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All activities have been canceled for the week, except high school practices that keep with IHSAA requirements.
School officials said anyone needing support is encouraged to talk to the counselors and clergy that will be made available at Carroll Elementary, 105 S. 225 East, in Flora.
The school corporation asks for your kindness and prayers for the family and community.
Endress said, “Her and I are good friends. I’m just going to support her, and help her, and try to help her get through this being so close to Thanksgiving and Christmas.”
