Flora house fire claims 4 children’s lives

CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office confirmed to News 18 that four children died in an early morning house fire in Flora.

The fire was called in around 3:30 a.m. in a residence on E. Columbia Street.

We were told four children and their mother were inside the home. The youngest child was 4, and the oldest was 13. There is no word on the woman’s condition yet, but we were told she was airlifted to a hospital.

Two law enforcement officers were also injured.

Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby said deputy Drew Yoder was flown by helicopter to a hospital burn unit in Fort Wayne. He had received burns to his hands and forehead, as well as severe smoke inhalation. According to Leazenby, the “next 48-72 hours are crucial” for Yoder’s recovery.

Flora police officer Josh Disinger was also hurt, and he is in stable condition at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
