LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Christmas is coming early for the staff at the Tippecanoe County Assessor’s Office.
Members with the group Friends of Downtown arrived Monday morning to drop off pedal exercisers for workers to stay in shape at their desks. County Assessor Eric Grossman got the idea when he noticed his staff were using their lunch hour to take walks to relieve stress.
Each unit sits under a worker’s desk and it can be pedaled through the daily grind. Grossman said the Friends of Downtown group was more than happy to help.
“This kind of started with Ken, Steve and one of my staff one night having a casual conversation about a way to combat that wall at their desks and it actually came to fruition,” Grossman said.
Friends of Downtown member Steve Bultinck said he’s happy to make a difference.
“Hopefully, it’s going to make them a lot healthier by putting it to use and when you’re healthier, you feel better about working and everything else that you do,” Bultinck said. “It’s really going to be an attitude and lifestyle change for the staff here.”
Bultinck said the assessor’s office is just the beginning, and the group wants to get units to other government offices in Greater Lafayette.
