Thanksgiving Day’s Race Against Hunger 5K asks for food donations in lieu of fees

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The fifth annual Race Against Hunger 5K is the perfect event for anyone who’s ever wanted to run a 5k but did not want to pay a registration fee.

Instead of paying to register, race organizers are asking participants to make a donation of nonperishable food items to Food Finders Food Bank.

“Some of their most needed items include peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta items and rice,” said Tiffany Krause, fit specialist and marketing manager of Fleet Feet.

Fleet Feet is the driving force behind the Race Against Hunger 5K which is on Thanksgiving Day.

“The race takes place on Thanksgiving morning at Cumberland Park,” Fleet Feet store manager Alisha Tanner said. “All are welcome including runners, walkers, [people with] strollers and dogs.”

Race organizers are asking all participants to register before the race either at the Feet Fleet store, 500 Sagamore Pkwy., in West Lafayette or on race day from 8-8:30 a.m. at Cumberland Park. You can register at the store during normal business hours, 10 a.m.-7 p.m., or during packet pickup on Wednesday, Nov. 23, from 2-7 p.m.

“We are expecting anywhere from 1,200 to 1,500 people,” said Krause.

The Race Against Hunger 5K begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24, at Cumberland Park in West Lafayette.
