ROYAL CENTER, Ind. (WLFI) – Pioneer Jr.-Sr. High School is home of the Panthers and an undefeated football team. First-year head coach Adam Berry and his team have been preparing all season for the opportunity to go to state and all that hard work has paid off.
“It feels amazing. We always thought we had a chance our first meeting. But we knew we had to work hard to get to this point, and our boys have worked hard” Berry said.
The Panthers will be taking on Linton-Stockton, another undefeated team. Pioneer is seen as the power house of the North and Linton-Stockton the powerhouse of the South.
“It will be interesting to see how we match up because we have never played them before,” sophomore quarterback Jack Kiser said. “But we have been compared to them, it will be really cool to see who comes out on top.”
Senior defensive back Jake Morris commented, “You never want to end your senior career, but if you have to this is a great way to go out.”
Senior full back Keith Nies said, “To say I was able to make it to the state finals my senior and sophomore year is something really special.”
Pioneer’s road to the state championship started with beating Central Catholic and continued with their win against Adams Central. With this being his first year as the head coach, Berry said he’s proud to see his program come this far.
Winning state doesn’t just mean being a champion, but it’s a sweet ending to a perfect season.
