FLORA, Ind. (WLFI) — It was a sad day of remembrance for residents in the town of Flora Tuesday.
More than 80 people gathered at the Flora United Methodist Church to remember the victims of the fatal fire.
Eleven-year-old Keyanna Davis, 9-year-old Keyara Phillips, 7-year-old Kerriele McDonald and 5-year-old Kionnie Welch all died of smoke inhalation when their home on East Columbia Street caught fire Monday morning.
At the vigil, people prayed for the kids, parents and first responders.
Tracie Rose, the four victims’ grandfather, said he’s thankful for the support of the community.
Tracie Rose’s daughter, Gaylin Rose, was also inside the home during the fire. Tracie Rose said Gaylin is still recovering in the hospital but she is able to speak and walk.
“It’s so hard,” Tracie Rose said. “But, as I continue to teach my daughter, you gotta keep fighting. You gotta keep fighting.”
After the vigil, community members walked over to the house where the fire happened.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office ruled the fire undetermined due to the amount of damage to the building.
