LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The fifth annual Turkey Trot 5K took place Thursday at the old Lafayette Golf Course.

More than 300 people, including Turkey Trot mascot Tom the Turkey, came out to participate.

All money raised at the Turkey Trot will help support the Lafayette Urban Ministry. This was the first year the 5K was hosted by LUM, the previous Trots were put on by Tri-N-Run Shoe Store.

This year’s race was extra special for one man who proposed after crossing the finish line.

“I was pretty nervous trying to run with the ring and not let her know, but she stayed with me so it was good. And she said ‘yes’ so that’s the best part,” said Peter Brutsman after proposing to Angelica Lewis.

Lewis said, “I’ve been waiting for this for four and a half years.”

If you missed the Turkey Trot you can still make donations to LUM. For more information on how to donate, click here.
