WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — It was a record-breaking year for the annual Race Against Hunger 5K.
About 1,500 runners showed up to support Food Finders Food Bank. The race, sponsored by Fleet Feet Sports, was held at Cumberland Park in West Lafayette.
Participants brought enough nonperishable items to fill an entire truck. Some people also donated money to the cause.
Thursday marked the fifth year for the event. Food Finders Food Bank development director Christine Burr said she hopes this year isn’t the last.
“We know that a lot of families have this race as a tradition every single year,” Burr said. “I hope it continues in the future.”
Organizers say it’s the perfect way for people to burn some calories before indulging in their own Thanksgiving meals.
“And do some good at the same time,” Burr added.
