WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — One of the nation’s most renowned orchestras is right down the interstate from Greater Lafayette, and the group is about to kick off an annual favorite to get us into the holiday spirit.
Sarah Myer with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra joined us on News 18 at Noon on Tuesday to give us more details about the Yuletide Celebration. She said this is the 31st year for the event.
“So it’s been a tradition in central Indiana for a really long time,” Myer said. “But yeah, 31 years running.”
Myer said the Yuletide Celebration consists of “Broadway’s best” singers and dancers from across the country. She said it’s a truly entertaining show.
“We have Christmas songs. We have traditional favorites, but then we throw in some contemporary favorites,” Myer said. “There’s singing, dancing. There’s aerialists this year. … It’s a fantastic show.”
She said joining in the fun this year is Josh Kaufman, the winner of the sixth season of “The Voice.” Kaufman is an Indianapolis native and Myer said it’s a big gig for him with 31 shows.
“But he’s handling it great,” Myer said. “He’s a pro, so we’re really excited to have him. It’s his debut on the Hilbert Circle Theatre Stage.”
Opening night is Friday, Dec. 2, and performances continue until Dec. 23. Myer said there are plenty of options to choose from — matinee or evening shows and weekday or weekend performances.
Tickets are available online or by calling the box office at 317-639-4300.
