LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Hunger Hike 2016 announced its total fundraising amount Thursday and it was another record-breaking year.
Last year the fundraiser broke $100,000 for the first time. This year more than $114,000 was raised.
Churches, organizations and individuals were all recognized at the announcement.
Father Patrick Baikauskas has been doing this for nine years and was the individual who brought in the most donations this year.
He said 100 percent of his portion of the money will go toward his church’s community in Haiti, which was hit very hard by Hurricane Matthew.
“We have the resources. We are blessed, and how can we share all that we have with people that are desperately in need,” Father Baikauskas said.
Next year’s Hunger Hike events are scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 16-17.
