The weather outside is beautiful and it feels like spring! Scattered cloud cover will remain in the forecast through the afternoon. We also have southerly wind flow, which will help drive temperatures up into the upper 60s and near 70° in our southern counties! Forecast highs today will be trending more than 20 degrees above normal. The average high temperature in Lafayette for this time of year is 47°. Our low temperature of 53° this morning was even higher than the normal high!
The area will stay dry through the afternoon and evening, but more rain is expected to arrive around midnight tonight. Otherwise, skies will be mostly cloudy and we will have lows dropping into the mid-50s.
Light scattered rain showers will be possible throughout Wednesday and highs will be slightly cooler because of the rain. Highs will still peak into the lower to mid-60s.
The rain will likely become more widespread Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. Moderate to heavy rainfall will be possible at times during that time period as the system slowly travels over Indiana.
There will be rain chances each day through the weekend. Forecast models are showing that some of our west counties have the potential of receiving 3.00″ of rain by the end of Sunday. The significant rainfall may cause area rivers and streams to flood toward the end of the work week and into the weekend. Flood levels may be similar to what we saw late December into early January.
Good news? Temperatures will continue to remain above average with highs in the 60s for the extended period.
